Allowances and benefits for workers in Bangladesh

In addition to the rights provided under the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006, workers in Bangladesh may also be entitled to various allowances and benefits depending on their employment terms and conditions. Some of these allowances and benefits include:

Festival bonus: Employers in Bangladesh are required to pay a bonus to workers during major festivals, such as Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha. The bonus is typically equivalent to one month's basic salary.

Transport allowance: Some employers provide transport allowances to workers to help cover their daily commute to work.

Medical allowance: Employers may provide medical allowances to workers to help cover the cost of medical treatment.

Housing allowance: Some employers provide housing allowances to workers who live outside the company's accommodation.

Provident fund: Employers may contribute to a provident fund on behalf of their workers, which can be withdrawn upon retirement or resignation(subject to section 264 of the Act).

Gratuity: Workers who have completed a certain length of service may be entitled to a gratuity payment upon leaving their job (wages of at least 30 (thirty) days.

Insurance: Employers may provide life insurance or accident insurance coverage for their workers.

It's important to note that the availability and amount of these allowances and benefits may vary depending on the employer and the terms of employment. Workers should review their employment contracts or consult with their employers to understand the specific allowances and benefits that they may be entitled to.
